Title:  Side by Side Comparison of Bombardier BiLevel Coaches
Description:  Coaster Train #662 and Metrolink Train #808. This is the only place on the West Coast where two commuter lines meet end to end. They also share the same yard north of Oceanside. The Metrolink train came in first, cab car leading, from the north then the Coaster came in locomotive first from the south. The Coaster was a couple of cars longer but the engineer stopped it so the cab cars were perfectly aliened. Thank you!

Title:  Sprinter DMU 4005
Description:  Colorado Railcar Manufacturing, which made this Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) married-pair, went out of business at the end of 2008. To me the unit sounded just like a Budd RDC and had poor acceleration relative to light-rail.

I Hate Public Lies
Title:  I Hate Public Lies
Description:  There are probably 50 of these signs on the fence separating the two through tracks at the Oceanside, CA station. All passenger trains stop and better than half terminate, reverse direction and leave for were they came from. Maybe four times a week in the wee hours a slow freight comes through non-stop. Don't say the sign is ok because it is for a good cause. The end does not justify the means. Its a lie!

Description:  PE 418 and 498 are both in Carhouse 4 at the Orange Empire Railway Museum. Called Blimps because of their size (steam RR passenger car size), these interurbans started their lives in commuter service for the Southern Pacific in the East Bay (Oakland, Berkeley, etc.) and ran across the Bay Bridge when it opened. At the start of WWII they were shipped to Southern California. 418 is a coach and 498 is a combine. 418 for example was built in 1913 by the Pullman Car Co. Description:  These "END OF BLOCK" signs are ridiculous and a waste of tax payer money. A "block" is a section of track anywhere from a few hundred feet to several miles long. In normal operation only one train is allowed in a block. In signaled territory blocks are protected by block signals. Dispatcher issued "Track Warrants" give trains permission to occupy blocks in dark (no signals) territory. Blocks are often named. Say in the section of track there is a bridge over the DuPage River. The block might be called DuPage. Signs may read "BEGIN DUPAGE BLOCK" and "END DUPAGE BLOCK." But who deemed it necessary to put "END OF BLOCK" signs at the end of the stub station tracks? Isn't it obvious? Is this a FRA rule? OK, this is L.A. Maybe Metrolink engineers want to know if they can proceed and will call the dispatcher for permission if they don't get a signal.
