St. Louis Union Station |
Description: |
SLUS is looking great, the station was built in the late 1800's. My grandpa caught a troop train to New Jersey here in the 50's during the Korean War. We decided we better get out of town after we drove by the station and the clearing just south of it, a very strong line of severe thunderstorms was rapidly approaching, propting a Tornado Watch here and several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings to our west. |

Southbound Manifest Through F3 Tornado Damage |
Description: |
As we were coming back from Caruthersville, MO from surveying the damage we caught this Southbound Mixed Freight BNSF Train M STLAMO1 07 on the River Sub. where April 2nd's F3 Tornado crossed the tracks, the town of Braggadocio was 95% destroyed. The second unit sure was a catch! The crew waved while looking at the damage at 50 mph. When the lights started at the crossing, a pick up truck with a tree trimming business ran the lights, thank goodness there was a Missouri Highway Patrol Officer coming in the other lane, try that again, stupid. The detector said: no defects, total axles 134, temperature 48 degrees. The train was 47 cars long, with 29 loads and 18 empties. It weighed 4,256 tons and was 3,124 feet long. |

Northbound Intermodal With No Katy |
Description: |
We were at Stoddard County Highway ZZ up the hill in a housing development that is under construction just west of Dexter as UP Train IHOYC 08 came by. It was supposed to have UP 1988, the MKT "Katy" Heritage Unit in the consist between these two. It obviously was not. We later found out that it was removed from the consist in Hoxie, Arkansas because it was giving a locked wheel detection. We searched every siding all the way to Arkansas and never found it! |

Set Out Katy Unit |
Description: |
The UP 1988 MKT "Katy" Heritage Unit was set out here yesterday at 13:36C by UP Train IHOYC 08. The Reason on the Crew Message Was: "LEAD MOTOR SPEED SENSOR DISABLED FOR LOCKED WHEEL DETECTION." The locomotive was idling and had 4,370 gallons of fuel, meaning it had burned 130 gallons of it's 4,500 gallon capacity since it left North Little Rock, AR. A very polite officer from the Hoxie Police Department came by and we spoke to him for about an hour after explaining what we were doing. |

The first train Pat Scott and I caught today was NS Train 111 passing NS Train 115 in the siding north of the airport. It was nice to catch a Primer "Albino Catfish" Dash-9 before they are all painted. The first car was a Hi-Wide Load, a McDonnell Douglas Corporation well car for carrying airplane and aviation parts. Pat picked me up this morning from The Double Tree Inn at Westport at 8:30 A.M. for a day of railfanning in St. Louis, we finished around 2:30 P.M. |

Bad Order |
Description: |
MY GOD! Talk about the things you find under overpasses in broad daylight! No, I’m not talking about the E-Units! Mr. Happy Sunshine fell off of his train which he had just slept on...I mean ran for the past 12 hours, just to come over here and shoot the executive locomotives from his OWN RAILROAD! I heard somebody calling my name, turned around, and this was the first time I was able to meet Dave Sanderbeck, a friend of mutual friends that I'd spoken to him many times through email. And look, both of their head ends are round, bald, shiny, and have the same logo on them. |

Nose Shot |
Description: |
Talk about a good looking piece of machinery. This would be the picture by the definition. They will never again produce a locomotive to stand up to an EMD Cab Unit. |
