Album Info:The Sunset Route is Union Pacific's primary southern transcontinental route between Los Angeles and New Orleans. The former SP line passes through the southern portions of Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and Louisiana. Leaving Los Angeles, the tracks cross the BNSF mainline at Colton, before swinging southeast to Beaumont. Beaumont Pass, from Beaumont to Indio, is one of three major mountain passes in SoCal; Tehachapi and Cajon being the more well known. From Indio, the tracks border the Salton Sea to Niland. Here, a branch to El Centro leaves the mainline. The tracks continue almost straight southeast to the Arizona border at Yuma.
