Partially visible at the left is PRR engine #4741, a P-5A (2-C-2) electric built by Baldwin-General Electric in March of 1933, rated at 3,750 horsepower, and retired in October of 1964. |

Aziz. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken just West of the 24th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1960. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5832 and another "Centipede" whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60's for passenger service and rated at 3,000 horsepower each; both were later regeared for freight service and reclassified as BH-50's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5822 was built in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. In this context, they're serving as tail-end pushers for a freight train heading up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where the pushers will be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignments. Partially visible at the left is PRR N-8 cabin car #478171. |
