Description:  At one time Bellefontaine OH had a large shop facility and six lines radiating from it serving the NYC system. Now it's another town on the CSX and the end of an IORY branch. The abandoned tower still overlooks the tracks though. This is yet another one of those shots that was cryin' for a train but, alas, nothing was running in the area.

Former PRR depot, London OH
Title:  Former PRR depot, London OH
Description:  The former PRR depot at London OH, looking east towards Columbus. The old Pennsy Panhandle main runs in front; it doesn't go much further west before turning into a rail trail. The NYC, now used by the NS, is behind. The signals guard the point where the NS comes off the old Pennsy line and turns onto the NYC for Dayton and Cincinnati. Passenger traffic wasn't very heavy here even in 1950; the NYC, who had an adjacent depot, only had on train a day stop while several other Cincinnati-Cleveland trains ran through. Pennsy wasn't much better as while the schedule shows up to eight Pittsburgh-St Louis trains ran by without stopping although a Columbus-Richmond local did stop at 2:37PM eastbound and 9:10PM eastbound.

Description:  Three units bring an NS stack train snakes down the 1.25% grade out of Kentucky and over the Ohio River into the NS piggyback yard in Cincinnati. This is the northern end of the Southern's fabled, "Rat Hole" line. The CSX main into Kentucky is to the left; an NS autorack train sits to the right. The picture was taken from the Cincinnati Railroad Club's excellent "Tower A" display on the backside of Cincinnati Union Terminal. The cloudy conditions actually helped here as this would've been right into the sun on a nice day.
