#1361. Here is a photo by John Dziobko, Jr., that was taken in South Amboy, New Jersey, in 1954. It was published originally on the back cover of Mike Schaffer & Brian Solomon's (1997) book entitled "Pennsylvania Railroad." Partial Caption: "Two symbols of the Pennsylvania Railroad stand side by side at South Amboy, N.J., in 1954." Partially visible here (L to R) are PRR engines #1361 and #4881. #1361 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve on 08 June 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, then withdrawn from service and disassembled due to safety concerns, and still not reassembled to wholeness. Engine #4881 is a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata during February of 1939 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. |

Newark. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train near Newark, Delaware, on 27 March 1965. Shown here is PRR engine #4881, a GG-1 built in Juniata during February of 1939. It has just departed Wilmington on its way South to Baltimore and Washington with a 21-car passenger train. The time is 3:24 P.M. The siding visible on the left services a General Foods warehouse. |
