Description: |
Mann. Here is a color photo (converted to B&W) by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Cresson, Pennsylvania, on 27 August 1964. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8616 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #8616 is an AS-24M built by the American Locomotive Company in August of 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. In this context, they're serving as eastbound pushers up to the tunnels in Gallitzin. (Gift from Brad Mann.) |

PRR 8616, AS-24M, 1966 |
Description: |
Winter Day. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8616 and #8614. Both are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in August of 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They're passing the Altoona Passenger Station on their way back to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Visible in the background is the PRR's Test Plant building. |
