Top Photo Caption: "The 'John Bull,' placed in service on the Camden and Amboy Railroad in 1831, was the first locomotive used on any line now included in the Pennsylvania System. The old Camden and Amboy Railroad is now part of the Trenton Division." Bottom Photo Caption: "Passenger locomotive built in 1856." Modeled here is the PRR's "Tiger," a 4-4-0 "American" steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1856, later numbered "134," and sold to M&I before 1862.

Here is page two of a 12-page pamphlet entitled "The Passing Of The Wooden Passenger Car From This Railroad." It was published originally by the Pennsylvania Railroad in June of 1928. Reprinted by Harry P. Albrecht in 1978. Center Illustration, Partial Caption: "The Pennsylvania Railroad funeral train carrying Abraham Lincoln's body, as it stopped just west of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia while en route from Washington to the Quaker City, April 22, 1865." Prominent here is PRR engine #331, a Class A (4-4-0) "American" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1865 and sold to E.H. Wilson in May of 1882.

Here is page one of a 30-page booklet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "Modern Locomotives And Cars: 1939." Pictured at the top is the "John Bull" and two vintage passenger cars. This locomotive was built in England in the 1830's and belonged to the Camden & Amboy Railroad. Depicted at the bottom is the PRR's "Tiger," a 4-4-0 "American" steam locomotive built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1856, later numbered "134," and sold to M&I before 1862.

Vintage. Here is a photo of a replica of the "John Bull." This replica was fabricated at the Altoona Works. Photo Caption: "To entertain a recent model railroader convention in Baltimore, Md., the Pennsy de-mothballed the old-timers it keeps at Northumberland, Pa., and sent them down behind a Geep. Description:
Extra Board. Here is an original photo that I took at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, in December of 1971. Shown here is the Camden & Amboy's "John Bull." This is the original 2-4-0 wood-burning steam locomotive that was built in England around 1830, disassembled and sent across the Atlantic Ocean on a wood-hulled ship with sails, and then reassembled for revenue service in New Jersey.
