One of the things I would do in that era was take either the PATH train to Newark, which yielded a good view of the storage tracks for the commuter trains, or ride the ex DLW out of Hoboken to Newark, which had a view of the engine tracks at Kearny. Originally built as NYC E8A 4080 in August of 1953, the loco survived the NYC/PC collapse and wound up in commuter service for the New Jersey Transit. After that service was over, the loco ended up back in the NYC lightning color scheme with RPCX #4080 as its number as of 2015 based on a photo in the RRPA database.. Unfortunately,no photographer, location or exact day in 1981 was given for the photo.
