UP MacA-63 2281 |
Description: |
Union Pacific Railroad MacA-63 2281 at an unknown location on an unknown date, photo by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. This is another unmarked negative that I purchased from Dick Rumbolz in 1965. The date entered is based on the retirement date, the location is based on most of the UP photos I have from Dick Rumbolz were shot in Council Bluffs. According to utahrails.net, This locomotive was built by Baldwin in March 1918 (c/n 48143) and was a coal burner. It was originally classed as MK-63, during WWII it was re-classed as MacA-65 (MacArthur class). It was retired in July 1954. It appears that the trailing locomotive is 9000, a 4-12-2 that was saved. That might help narrow down the location. I don't believe the 4-12-2's were allowed to go to Council Bluffs. |

Description: |
Great action shot of a double-header pulling a string of freiight cars that disappear into the distance. Lead loco #4013 was a 1916 Alco built "Santa Fe" type locomotive. According to www.Steamlocomtoive.com "Their rough riding qualities were problematical until revised counterbalancing smoothed the way. All of the Erie's 2-10-2s were renowned for their great power, whether as road engines or pushers." ERIE #3000 was a 1911 Baldwin product, the first of its N-1 class to be built. No date given for this action shot so an arbitrary one was used. Unknown photographer. |

GN 2-8-2 #3121 - Great Northern |
Description: |
Beautiful example of a 1918 Baldwin built 2-8-2 Mikado, GN 3121. The loco served the Great Northern until it was sold to the SP&S in 1943 and renumbered SP&S #509. The loco barely served 2 years when it was scrapped in 1945. No date was given for the photo so an approximate one was used. Robert Graham photo |
