Central Vermont 2-10-2 703 |
Description: |
Easing out of the roundhouse somewhere on the CV system is 2-10-2 703, a 1928 ALCo product. The career of the big Santa Fe type was nearing the end by the time of this June 1953 scene. |

2-10-4 #706 |
Description: |
The 706 has just turned on the wye and is heading back to the north end of the yard and the locomotive servicing facility. It's too big to fit on the turntable. |

CV 2-10-4 #709 - Central Vermont |
Description: |
Fairly nice photo of the Alco-Schenectady 2-10-4 Texas type steam locomotive built for the Central Vermont in December of 1928. Specs - class T-3a, 10 built, 60" drivers, 250 psi boiler pressure, 27"x32" cylinders, engine weight 419,000 lb, tractive effort of 82,620 lb. One online source states "They were relatively light, small, and low-drivered. Nevertheless, these engines rattled windows and shook the ground, according to a December 1993 Trains recollection. And they weren't kind to the rails." The ten were all scrapped between 1954-59. |
