Waffles can wait |
Description: |
We were heading from church over to Waffle House, which necessitated a trip across the tracks. I looked down the line as I usually do, to see this train approaching with a pair of NS units leading. This is somewhat unusual, and we dont see a lot of them here, so breakfast could wait. There were also a pair on the rear, along with a KCSM GE to get the 102 frac sand cars over the road. |

Belle |
Description: |
When these cars were new, they often ran in solid trains, along with KCS power in the then new retro Belle scheme. It made for an impressive looking train. Ten years on, the new cars arent so new anymore, and run randomly. This one is in a southbound grain train at Watts. It's a little bit dusty, but looks pretty good for ten years on the road. |

Trailing unit on this NS local was another rebuilt GP38-2 with a different heritage than the locomotive up front. NS 5659 was one of four GP38AC locomotives constructed by EMD in the early winter of 1971 for freight service on the Lehigh Valley Railroad. Originally LV 313, this unit along with its three sisters could be found at the head end of most heavy freight consists on the LV main line between Oak Island in Newark, NJ and Buffalo, NY. Acquired by Conrail in 1976, the unit was renumbered CR 7659 and would continue to serve on main line freight. NS would gain this unit to its roster in 1999 following the CR split and rebuilt it into its present configuration in 2006. |
