AMTK 8801
Title:  AMTK 8801
Description:  Amtrak 8801 was the kitchen-dormitory unit of twin-unit diner 8800-8801, with a room for the steward and 18 dormitory bunks; while car 8800 (on the right) contained a 64-seat dining room. The two cars were deadheading from New Orleans to Plains, Georgia on the PEANUT SPECIAL, which was headed for the inauguration of Jimmy Carter; and the trucks and underbody had just been repainted. The cars were built by Budd in 1948 as Pennsylvania 4600-4601 and retained the same numbers on the Penn Central. There were six pairs of these, and four of them went to Amtrak in 1973 as the 8800-8807.
