are the tracks still intact beyond the CSX main? Back in the 90s I visited this place in the summer months and then the old CofG interlocking signals were still standing were they when you shot this?

with the rising cost of fuel could old lines like this see new life as more companies look for a cheaper alternative to truck transportation?

A sad, sad sight. I was there today, and it doesn't look any better.

Yes the CSX is still running their side. It is Very busy. There is a rumor of reusing this line, but only rumor right now. That is why I think they will not take up the rails. The was a make shift signal for the CSX to see when the CofG was in the interlocking is what I was told by an old C&S person.

This looks very much like a "Return to Train" Signal. They were mounted pretty much this way, facing in each direction for the CSX. I have only seen them on ex SAL lines but i suppose they could be anywhere. CSX took them all out in the late 90s.

I wish I did have one while it was in service. The signals were single mast with two bulbs (red & Yellow)& it was regular height. It was laying on the ground when I took this photo. It's gone now by nobody knows when it was taken.
