| It's Saturday 1 May 1971, and at midnight Amtrak had taken over or eliminated almost all of the country's long distance passenger trains. Louisville & Nashville E7A's 779 and 780 had just brought the very last L&N passenger train into New Orleans, and were resting at the NOUPT sand tower. In a couple of hours, they would back into the station and then leave with all of the L&N's passenger cars that were still there. |
