ATSF 2-10-4 #5001 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe  Contributor's Pick!       
A 1938 Baldwin built Texas style locomotive here was an ATSF class 5001 with 74" drivers and 310 psi boiler pressure. It was scrapped in 1959. Date is approximate. A Forrest Trittenbach photo

Eric Reinert General Could this be at the time of delivery in 1938? She's gleaming, the headlight is covered and it looks like the side rod may be off of her, and there appears to be a spacer on the third set of drivers under the eccentric crank. The walkway above the cylinders is askew too. Wonder what's going on here? You sure have been posting a load of photos lately. Thank you for sharing them. 9/5/2013 11:08:57 AM
Justin May General The date should be 1938. With the rods disconnected and the headlight covered, 5001 is being delivered to the ATSF subsequent to her construction at Baldwin. This is, without a doubt, a photo taken of a brand new engine upon her delivery to the ATSF. 2/5/2024 10:37:29 PM
