ILSX 1338 and ELS 500
E&LS train passes the team track as it approaches Main St. while hauling 27 cars northward via former MILW rails at Abrams, WI on 31 Jul. '14. It is cool to see a former MILW unit, ELS 500, running on former MILW rails; obviously it would be much cooler if was wearing its original paint scheme. The pulpwood cars could easily be loaded where they sit. Are the covered hoppers loaded or unloaded by Abrams Feed & Grain (out of frame to the right) somehow, or are they spotted here for some other reason? On old maps it appears the depot stood to the right, west, of the cars on the team track, but there is clearly enough room for the depot to have stood between the tracks, with the team track running behind it.

T. P. Bruss General Thank you, I was pleased to catch a train here. 8/4/2014 4:08:25 AM
Matthew Moellendorf General I do not see how you could unload a covered hopper there, nor are ICE cars frequent visitors. I would guess that those are being stored temporarily before going farther north. That siding is usually only switched by northbound trains. The pulpwood cars are indeed loaded from the path next to the tracks, from there they usually go to Louisiana Pacific in Sagola, MI. Only once or twice have I caught the rack-equipped pulpwood cars that go south to Green Bay on their way to points beyond. 10/9/2014 9:17:57 PM
T. P. Bruss General Thank you for the information Matthew. I was thinking-out-loud/speculating about those cars on a stretch of rail I occasionally visit, and hoping the feed mill still received rail service. I appreciate the constructive and informative feedback from someone who knows more about the line than I do. 1/27/2015 4:12:16 AM
