The only coal trains on the Front Range sub were those going to the power plants located on line at Boulder, Platte River Junction and Wheatland, WY. Through coal trains were not run on the Front Range due to the numerous grades, sharp curves and street running at FTC and Longmont. Flooding in August, 2014 severed the Front Range sub in Wyoming and forced the rare movement of Loaded coal trains through FTC. Trains were routed down the Sterling sub into Denver, then up the Front Range. This loaded coal train is northbound through Loveland with coal for the Platte River Power plant north of Wellington |
