It was published originally in the February 1967 issue of "Railroad Model Craftsman" magazine, page 35. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania Railroad 5822-5829 Baldwin Centipede diesels road class BH-50, originally BP-1, swing light around the famous Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pa., in the early 1950's in pusher service." Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5822 and #5829 were built by Baldwin as passenger-service BP-60's rated at 3,000 horsepower each, but later regeared and classified as helper-service BH-50's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5822 was built in February of 1948, while #5829 was built in December of the same year. Both were retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. |
