Louisville & Nashville H-27 class 2-8-0 1279 was switching passenger cars at the railroad’s JULIA STREET YARD in New Orleans. The 1279 did not have Automatic Train Stop equipment, so it could not be used on the main line between Mobile and Gentilly and was restricted to yard and transfer service while in New Orleans. It had been built by the L&N’s SOUTH LOUISVILLE SHOPS as serial number 115 in 1911 and was retired on 7 July 1953. (approximate date of photo) |
