NOPSI 939
New Orleans Public Service car 939 was turning around on the loop at the foot of Canal Street, at the Mississippi River end of the CANAL car line. On the right were vehicles waiting to board a ferry boat, while the steamer PRESIDENT was at its usual dock. On the other side of the 939 were the LIBERTY MONUMENT, the pedestrian viaduct to the ferry landing which crossed over several railroad tracks, and the former L&N railroad station. Car 939 had been built by the Perley A. Thomas Car Works in 1924 and was scrapped on 17 June 1964, right after buses replaced the streetcars on the CANAL line.
