Built by ALCo-Brooks in October of 1916, Illinois Central #1139 (serial #56083) lasted until being scrapped in 1952. However it did play a part in an Presidential election in 1940. Seen here, it headed up the Wendel Willkie "Campaign Special " before the Republican convention in September of 1940. Rebuilt specs - 75.5" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 285,500 lb, tractive effort of 48,511 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
