NJT E8A #4253 - New Uersey Transit
Here is photo taken by an unknown rail fan of NJT E9A #4253 in commuter service. Originally built as PRR 5793A in June of 1952, the loco has survived the PRR/PC collapse and commuter service on the NJT roster. As of 2023, it was in storage as CTVX 61 (Cleveland Terminal and Valley Rwy) Unfortunately,no photographer, location or exact date in 1982 was given for the photo. With help from Steve Coraggio (see comment below), the location is now identified as the Matawan station. Thanks Steve for your help!!!

Steve Coraggio General Great going away shot of both E8A's. This also looks like MAtawn -Aberdeen, NJ (Monmouth County). A very nice historic album, Gary. Thank you for sharing 7/9/2024 8:08:07 PM
Tom Beckett General Enough of the E's got the scheme shown-it was the scheme EL used on the U 34CH's when they were delivered in 1971 for their commuter trains, the same pattern as EL's freight scheme, but in NJDOT colors. Made for an elegant looking set of power when run back to back as shown here. The original paint diagram had the silver stripe going level across the front of the units. Later, railfan Walt Grosselfinger, a Middletown NJ resident who knew people at NJDOT, showed them a model he did of an E 8 with the scheme you see here, with the bow wave. That scheme, as you can see, was the one ultimately adopted. 7/10/2024 4:41:12 AM
