| While their numbers are still very high, CN's SD40-2s and SD40-2Ws are now an endangered species. CN has begun to retire these locomotives as they suffer major failures. With over 65 SD70M-2s and GEVOs coming online in the next couple years, the services of these SD40s will no longer be needed.
