Grand Canyon Railway FPA-4 #6793 is a historic Alco/MLW diesel locomotive, built for Canadian National (CN) in May of 1959 and later operated by VIA Rail Canada starting in 1978. It was then acquired by Grand Canyon Ry in 1989 and used for tourist runs in its classic silver/gold paint, providing "Williams Flyer" heritage passenger service between Williams and the Grand Canyon. This FPA-4 model (1800hp) was part of a series originally for CN, retired by VIA due to safety regs, and found new life in the US for scenic journeys, representing a piece of railway history still in operation. The photo was taken by rail fan Mr. Berg senior and is now in my collection. |
