Album Info:Nice group of b&w photos of Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type steam locomotives. These were mostly 10x6" photos with no location, date or photographer information. Any help in identifying the location would be appreciated.

Description:  This massive monster was built by Baldwin in May of 1941 (serial #62526) to serve the DMIR with their long ore drags in Minnesota.The loco lasted in service until being sold for scrap in 1962. Specs - class M3, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 695,040, tractive effort of 140, 000 lb. Description:  With a huge cloud of smoke, this 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type steam locomotive, DMIR #224, takes off for another revenue service trip. Built by Baldwin in May of 1941, it lasted for nearly 21 years in service before being scrapped in 1962. Specs - class M3, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 695,040, tractive effort of 140, 000 lb. Title:  DMIR 2-8-8-4 #225 - Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range
Description:  This loco is one of the 3 Yellowstone type steam locomotives that dodged the scrapper's torch. Built by Baldwin in May of 1941 (serial #62531), the loco was an impressive powerhouse used to move long drags of iron ore cars to Duluth and Two Harbors, MN. The loco was retired and donated to the Proctor Deevelopment Council where it was put on permanent display there. Specs - class M3, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 695,040, tractive effort of 140, 000 lb. Description:  Here is another of the three surviving 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type steam locomotives built by Baldwin. This one was built in May of 1941 (serial #62533) and was last on the active roster in 1961. It was stored at Proctor, MN until being donated to the Lake Superior RR Museum in Duluth, MN. Specs - class M3, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 695,040, tractive effort of 140, 000 lb. Specs - M4 class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. Specs - M4 class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb.
